"AA" Level Pernambuco

Buyers may need to book in front (about one or two months early) if they want a customised master bow.

R&D

Pernambuco, air dry density: 1.0-1.2, grows in Brazil. It is well known as the best wood for string instruments bow making. Master luthiers can use B quality spruce and maple to produce A (Top) quality violins. But it is different in bow making, A good bow relies more on good quality bow wood than the technique and experience of makers. Pernambuco has best dense and flexible characters to meet the requirements of modern bows. But it is now a endangered species. Pernambuco trade is prohibited by the authority of Brazil. For bow makers, the only source is their existing stocks.

The stock of our pernambuco wood is limited. Therefore, we respect every pernambuco stick, and put extra care in crafting. The quality of pernambuco varies a lot. The low quality is categorized in brazilwood bow. Only 10% is suitable for high quality bow making. A good pernambuco bow should have no knots, and the grain should be thin and straight. For high quality pernambuco bows, there is no "best" bow, but a "right" bow. Same bow often sings differently on the same instrument by different players. Some players like flexible bows, and generate loud sound using high speed. Some fancy bows with great strength, and they like to use a lot pressure to get loud sound. It totally depends on player's taste. For Top Model and Master Model, we take pictures for every individual bow, and provide our feeling about this bow. It will be helpful for you to buy a right bow.

YITAMUSIC Snakewood Bow Series

Yitamusic snakewood bows have three quality levels, see details in the following tables. Our standard for snakewood stick is high. Those sticks don't meet our requirements are discarded. Therefore this model is not for beginners, but for advanced players and upwards.

Advanced ModelTop ModelMaster Model
"A" or "AA" Level Snakewood

"AAA" Level Snakewood
This model suits advanced player, and can be a desirable backup bow for the professional. The bows in this model are all selected bows. In general, they have impressive snakewood figures, good stiffness, good control and response.
Very Limited. Only a few bows are made each year. This is due to master's limited energy and extremely strictly bow stick choice standard. It is often in baroque or transitional model, with mammoth ivory frog. If you are musician or collector, these items may suit you. Buyers may need to book in front (about one or two months early) if they want a customised master bow.

R&D

Snakewood (Letterwood), air dry density: 1.2-1.4, the heaviest wood known in the world. It only grows in a few countries in South America, such as Suriname, Guiana and Brazil. The snakewood from Suriname has the best quality. For baroque and viola de gamba bows, snakewood is the most popular choice. We started to use it for modern bow making several years ago. The feedbacks from customers are fine. Since its density is so high, a modern style snakewood bow is very often over heavy.

Snakewood tends to have many cracks during the air dry processing. Therefore, snakewood used for bow making should be absolutely dry, otherwise, the bow will get some cracks sooner or later. We imported 5 tons of snakewood logs from Suriname six years ago. All the bow blanks we used have been well air dried . About half of raw bow blanks will get cracks during the air dry processing and have been discarded by us. Although it seems a bit wasting, it is the only way to guarantee the quality of finished snakewood bows.

YITAMUSIC Carbon Bow Series

Yitamusic carbon bows has three levels, with details shown in the following tables.

Advanced ModelTop ModelMaster Model
The perfect carbon bow for professional music school students. This model has the best price performance. Well made carbon fiber stick, often fitted with nickel silver, with an affordable price.
This model suits advanced player, and can be a desirable backup bow for the professional. This model has texture carbon stick. The setup is done by one maker from the beginning till the end.
If you are a professional player, this model may suit you. Only strictly selected silver carbon stick will be used for this model. Of course, All fittings use sterling silver. The setup is very carefully done by master makers.

R&D

Carbon bows have many advantages. The stick is hard, and never twist, never broke. Suitable players can be range from beginners to professionals. However, it is too hard sometimes, and lack resilience. To overcome this draw back, we have used several types of carbon thread during making the carbon sticks. Some carbon thread is soft, while some carbon thread is hard. To precisely control the percentage of the soft carbon thread ratio, we can control the property of the stiffness/resilience of carbon stick. Therefore, our carbon bows are not too hard, and have good resilience. Your feedback is important to us, if most of the user still feel hard, we can increase the resilience furthermore. For large quantity orders, we can customaries the stiffness/resilience ratio.

Reviews and Testimonials

"Hallo - On the 27th of June 2007 I was fortunate to win an amazing M19 violin.------Today , after so many months, I have to tell you that it is a marvelous instrument - it seems to echo my emotions and feelings. I also have a Stentor Elysee, a La Prevotte [1850] and a Sindelar. The M19 [Zabin Ma] is a beautiful instrument, an excellent piece of craftmanship and it has a rich sound. I would recommend it to advanced musicians. I have no doubt that Chinese violins are very well made and can sing if the violinist is able to sing !! Kind regards"
